Accountfully Client: Lunch + Recess

Written by Accountfully Content Editor | Sep 15, 2016 3:52:12 PM

We have so many cool and creative clients across the country that it’s hard to pick favorites. Whether it’s creative agencies, revolutionary product producers, or hip spotlight-stealing startups, we work with so many talented people and interesting businesses. We’re always inspired by our clients, and love knowing that by solving some of their challenges, we’re able to give them the time and resources to really focus on growing their company.

Our diverse clients get a well deserved shout out in our Client Spotlight series, where we share a sneak peek into the successes and challenges of business owners of all shapes and sizes. We get to share all of the great stories behind the concepts and learn how outsourced accounting has assisted in their growth and development.

This week we’re staying local, highlighting Lunch + Recess. They are a creative agency based in Charleston, South Carolina. The team behind Lunch and Recess works on visual content that ranges from TV spots and webmercials to brand films and webisodes. They’ve worked with organizations like Trident United Way and shoemaker Johnston and Murphy while also putting together film festival submissions on wide ranging subjects from taxidermy to bike advocacy.

Accountfully has worked with Lunch + Recess since 2013. Our initial work was focused on tax planning, but we were also able to implement more timely reporting. This allowed the team to make better decisions from a business standpoint while minimizing tax liabilities. We also helped them with project costing in order to maintain an accurate record of expected profits and expenditures. Moving forward, this information has allowed keen insight to keep their clients’ projects priced with precision.

A lot has changed and grown for the company since 2013, so we recently caught up with the Lunch + Recess crew, and asked founder and producer, Ryan Cockrell, to share more insight into the company and how outsourcing his accounting has helped.

Who created the company and why: I started making movies when I was ten, and never stopped. I went on to college for film, and then went to work on movies and TV, eventually forming my own company, which would become Lunch and Recess. It started as my personal freelance venture and grew.

What makes the company different: We are filmmakers at our core. Everyone who works here loves to tell stories or better yet, show stories. Some of us are more animation based and some are film based, but overall we all strive for great stories. We lend that storytelling ability to businesses who need our help.

When it became time to outsource the accounting: It was time to outsource when I went from freelance to a full on LLC. I started looking and it took two to three tries to find the bookkeepers we needed. Accountfully was doing exactly what we had been looking for and just could not find.

How outsourcing accounting helps the business: I'm not an accountant. I don't want to do it. I want to keep my time free to do what I do best, helping clients share their stories across multiple screens.

What’s new and on the radar for Lunch + Recess: We have shifted to subscription based billing which allows our clients to budget for our service. For about the cost of one full time employee, you get an entire Visual Content team who can not only create the content, but also handle placing it across social and paid per channels.
